Standing desks are a workplace trend, with companies that promote standing desks betting it improves employee health and productivity. But in reality, the only thing a standing desk can do is get employees to stand an extra 30-60 minutes a day, with little to no impact on health and productivity. Some companies promote the use of sit stand desk in the workplace, and the idea behind this is fairly simple, because we know that sitting for too long is bad for your health. At this point, dozens if not hundreds of studies have proven it time and time again. There is no question that sitting a lot and not getting much exercise is bad for your health.


So, our thinking is, just stand up and work. If you need to sit in front of a computer all day, find a adjustable height desk that can be raised, or one that moves up and down, and work standing up. This would reduce the health risks associated with being sedentary, a major risk factor for health problems among “wage workers”.

As with most health interventions, though, the truth is more complicated than that. While electric standing desk and other standing interventions in the workplace may allow you to stand longer, they may not significantly improve health or well-being.
